Airport Assistance Services

Fast Track Assistance

Security and passport control queues at OTP can become unpredictable during the morning European departure banks and evening arrivals. Airport Assist's Fast Track service helps eligible travelers move through priority screening and border-control channels more efficiently, reducing waiting times and making tight connections more manageable.

Meet and Greet

An Airport Assist representative welcomes you directly at the terminal entrance, arrival hall, or aircraft gate (where permitted). The service is especially useful for first-time visitors to Romania, elderly travelers, and passengers unfamiliar with Schengen and non-Schengen departure procedures.

Lounge Access

For travelers facing long waits between flights, Airport Assist can arrange access to Bucharest Airport's business lounges located near Gates 3, 9, and 12. These lounges offer comfortable seating, refreshments, workspaces, Wi-Fi, and a quieter environment away from the busy departure halls.

VIP Airport Assistance

Designed for executives, diplomats, celebrities, and travelers who value privacy, VIP assistance provides personalized airport handling from arrival to boarding. Airport Assist coordinates priority processing and escorts passengers through the airport with minimal hassle.

Family & Special Needs Assistance

Families traveling with young children often appreciate help navigating security, strollers, and boarding procedures. Airport Assist also coordinates wheelchair assistance and mobility support for elderly passengers and travelers with reduced mobility.

Baggage & Porter Help

Heavy luggage can quickly become exhausting, particularly after long-haul flights. Airport Assist can arrange baggage handling support from check-in to baggage claim, helping travelers move comfortably through the terminal.

Transit Assistance

If you're connecting through Bucharest on separate tickets or transferring between Schengen and non-Schengen flights, Airport Assist helps navigate transfer procedures, airline desks, and departure gates, minimizing confusion and reducing connection stress.

Layover & Connection Tips

  • Allow extra time during peak departures. Morning departures between 5:00 AM and 9:00 AM are often the busiest period at OTP. Security and passport control queues can grow quickly, particularly during summer travel periods.
  • Understand Schengen vs Non-Schengen gates. The airport separates Schengen and non-Schengen passenger flows within the departures area. Check your boarding pass carefully because passport control requirements may differ depending on your destination.
  • Domestic-to-international transfers. For domestic-to-international connections, experienced travelers generally allow at least 90 minutes. If you're traveling on separate tickets, two hours is often more comfortable.
  • International-to-international connections. For flights remaining inside the terminal, 90–120 minutes usually works well. During busy periods or passport-control checks, additional buffer time is recommended.
  • Use airport lounges strategically. Business Lounges near Gates 3 and 9 are among the most comfortable places to spend a longer layover. Paid access is available through selected lounge programs, credit card benefits, and day-pass options.
  • Free Wi-Fi is available. The airport offers complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the terminal. Download airline apps before departure to receive gate-change notifications and real-time updates.
  • Train into Bucharest. The airport railway station connects directly with Bucharest Gara de Nord. For many travelers, the train is faster and more predictable than road transport during rush hour.
  • SIM cards and connectivity. Orange, Vodafone, and Digi mobile services are widely available in Romania. Travelers can usually purchase SIM cards in arrivals or nearby convenience stores after leaving customs.
  • Overnight layovers. The airport itself is not particularly sleep-friendly. Most travelers with overnight connections choose nearby airport hotels within a five-minute shuttle or taxi ride.
  • Keep an eye on gate changes. European low-cost carriers occasionally change gates with limited notice. Monitor airport screens frequently, especially during busy travel periods.
  • Baggage recheck. Passengers traveling on separate tickets should expect to collect and recheck baggage after arrival. Always confirm baggage agreements with your airline before departure.
  • Visa & Entry Rules. Romania is part of the Schengen Area. Entry and transit requirements vary depending on nationality. For official information, check: https://www.mae.ro/en
  • Aviation enthusiasts. Large windows in parts of the departure concourse provide excellent aircraft-viewing opportunities. Runway operations can be surprisingly active throughout the day.
  • Elderly traveler tip. Wheelchair assistance should be requested through your airline at least 48 hours before departure whenever possible. Elevators and accessible facilities are available throughout the terminal.
  • Families with children. The airport includes family-friendly seating areas and baby-care facilities. Arriving slightly earlier helps avoid rushing through security with young children.
